This is the 15th Annual Student Festival of Fashion

STUDENT FESTIVAL OF FASHION 2012

 

PLEASE READ THE RULES CAREFULLY

 

 

Entries must comply with all requirements to ensure entry into the correct category.

Entrants are encouraged to embrace the theme ‘150 Years of Fashion’ in all categories.

 

1. Fashion Illustration (Grades 8 – 12)

The illustrated garment and model must be your own free hand drawing and rendered in full colour using any medium. This front on view only must be presented on good quality A4 drawing cartridge in portrait format. Do not trace or sign your name on the front although this information is required on the back for ease of return. Do not mount your illustration. The choice of theme and style of garment is yours and will be judged on originality, use of colour, texture, tone and mood. These can be delivered to Uniform Solutions, cnr Sydney & Alfred Sts, Mky

 

2. Out-rage-us (wearable art for grades 8 – 10)

Art: that walks while you wear it. The entry can be assembled using any medium or construction method. Anything goes. Overall presentation and creativity will be judged.

 

3. Masks (Grades 8 – 12)

The BASE MASK or BASE of HEADDRESS must be completely constructed by the artist. The base and decorations used can be of any medium or combination of mediums. Entries are judged on durability, originality and overall creativity. Models must wear full body coverage in plain black.

 

4. Wearable Art (Grades 11 & 12)

WOW the audience and judges when you make a bold statement and demonstrate your art and design skills. NO limitations or restrictions on the use of materials or methods of construction.  Inspiration can come from current events, social or political issues or the year’s theme. Critical judging will be on overall presentation, originality, creativity and how the piece performs or moves on stage.

 

5. Guys model T (Grades 8 – 12)

This is a male’s only category.

Guys this is your time to shine! Grab a T-shirt and funk it up anyway you want. You can use words, symbol,  embellishments, etc – it’s up to you.. Go solo or get a group of mates together and create something you’d love to wear. Show the judges your funky personality, attitude or how cool you are.

 

6. Pulp Fiction (Grades 8 -12)

Paper is the name of the game. Use ANY paper- magazines, newspaper, coloured or plain paper or a combination of them all. Invent a durable wearable work of art that is assembled together in any way. No need to sew if you don’t want to. Creativity, ingenuity, resourcefulness and overall presentation will be the consideration of the judges. Paper may be glued, stitched wrapped, sculptured, stapled or pinned.

 

7. Renew, Recycle, and Reinvent (Grades 8-12)

Recycle a garment from any charity shop into a brand new look. You can resew, dye, embellish or whatever to create a new outfit. All entries must have the charity shop receipt and a front AND back photo attached to the entry. Judging elements are on the amount the garment has changed from its original state to the newly reconstructed well presented piece.

 

8. Beach & Resort Wear (Grades 8-12)

Think sun, surf and sand and design beach and resort wear to take you through the summer. This individual ensemble or a collection must be sewn. Complete with appropriate accessories these entries will be judged on originality and function.

 

9. Street Wear (Grades 8-12)

A casual everyday look that can be worn shopping, hanging out or to the movies is what this category is about. The design must be appropriate for your age and personality. Choice of fabric or technique is open for judging.

 

10. Red Carpet (Grades 8-12)

The name says it all. Design and construct a graduation, glamour or evening wear piece. Textile and creative embellishing techniques are open. This stylish individual piece will be judged on its creativity, overall presentation and category selection. Garments must be sewn although not necessarily judged.

 

11. 150 Years of Fashion (Grades 8-12)

Entries in this category will have already been paraded in categories 2-10. The designs must reflect a style from a specific era over the past 150 years. Be it 1920 or 1970 the choice is yours so long as it is between now and 150 years back!

 

 

Fashion Illustration prize to be advised with substantial cash prizes to be won in the other categories.

2 Major Awards  - donated by Bernina Sewing Centre and Whitsunday Office Machines.

 These will be decided from the winners of the above categories.

HINTS
1.      DON’T COPY. Be original.
2.      Have model wear shoes that fit and are a comfortable height. Too many models can’t walk on stage in very high heels. This hinders the overall look. Practice walking in them.
3.      Masks should be durable and withstand close scrutiny.

 

  1. Beg, Borrow or Buy a suitable hanging device e.g. mannequin, dressmaker model or strong wooden hangers for judging.

 

  1. Presentation of garment for judging is paramount. Think of how you can best display it.
